Chunky Cluster Stitch Beanie and Ribbed Beanie

So what do you do, when you know that there are some patterns out there, that are like the one you created?
I have researched and found some free patterns like this, although slightly different.....  Can I go ahead and sell this pattern as my own, if I know that I have not copied exactly anything that I've seen, and that I can truthfully say that I just created this and perfected it myself?  I have designed it so it will fit up to 5 sizes, using a thicker yarn.  What are your thoughts?  I think I know what you are going to say, that is the reason I am posting this.  I know that I can freely sell the products I make from the hat, and be at ease about it.
There is so much on the internet that can inspire you, It's hard not to come up with something that is already out there. How can you not make it unique enough?  It's a hard topic I think.  That being said, I am working on another project that is very similar to others out there, but I think I have put a unique twist on it.  Hopefully unique enough.  I will share that soon, and hopefully get some feedback.
Thanks for stopping by,
Hillery

I've run into this same problem . . . I'll come up with a pattern that I think is so original, and after a little searching will find that there are other very similar patterns out there. But I figure, if you did the experimenting and wrote down your own pattern, you're good. I'm not sure there's such a thing as a completely new idea anymore, so I figure as long as you're not opening up somebody's pattern and copying it, or changing two teensy things and calling it your own, it's still your own work. That's probably what you expected us to say, huh? :-) I love the hat--so cute!

I agree - if you've done the hard job of working out a pattern for yourself then you know it's yours and you can do with it what you want. There are only so many ways to make a hat that there are bound to be similar patterns out there! It's a gorgeous pattern by the way - well done!!! Have a lovely week.
