I'll...I've run into this same problem . . . I'll come up with a pattern that I think is so original, and after a little searching will find that there are other very similar patterns out there. But I figure, if you did the experimenting and wrote down your own pattern, you're good. I'm not sure there's such a thing as a completely new idea anymore, so I figure as long as you're not opening up somebody's pattern and copying it, or changing two teensy things and calling it your own, it's still your own work.
